35 mm film and negative scanner July 26, 2010 This is an excellent, convenient device for converting 35 mm slides or negatives to digital format. The scans are good quality - 3,600 dpi. The scanner stands alone so you're not tied to your computer. (If it is attached to the computer by the DSL cable, then pictures are saved directly on your computer.) As a stand alone scanner, it can be powered by 4 AAA batteries or by an AC/DC adapter. It comes with a 2GB SD card. I found it most convenient to set up my scanner and slide trays in a comfortable place SVP Digital Film Scanner w/ 2.4" Build-in LCD (2GB Included), ~"World's Smallest Film Scanner"~and scan away. The scans are saved directly to the SD card, if it is inserted. I then downloaded the scans to my computer, from the SD card, to edit and save the pictures. Some of my slides are 40 years old, so the colors had faded. The scanner comes with photo editing software but you can use the photo software you prefer. Then I have saved my photos in batches to DVDs and SD cards.
Digital Film Scanner July 16, 2010 Nice and easy to use, once you get the hang of it. Instructions could be clearer, but not totally confusing. Takes some getting use to so the photos "read" correctly for signs etc. Is simple to use, but requires some effort if your negative does not have the holes to the scanners requirements. Makes nice JPEG results and nice prints from the card. Nice edit program with the scanner so to "clean up" your negative or slide blemishes. Still, you want your originals in the best shape possible as the scanner picks up every detail.

Had about 500 slides from over the years that were starting to deteriorate and I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg to have them transferred into pictures at a Photo shop. Then I would have a bunch of pictures to either throw in a box all mixed together or spend hours and dollars putting them into photo albums. Best thing to do? Get a reasonably priced piece of equipment that would transfer all my slides to my PC. Hey, I was maybe going to use it for a whole bunch of slides at once and maybe never use it again but I still wanted a good final product. I always read the reviews before putting stuff in my Amazon cart and came across this particular machine. Reviews weren't 100% wonderful but acceptable for what I needed to use it for (to transfer/store deteriorating slides). Another plus is by transferring slides to PC - less clutter around the house.
Easy to setup: Took about 5 minutes or less to setup. 5 stars Easy to use: Took 5-10 minutes to figure out what the buttons were for and how they worked. Loading the slide tray and inserting it into converter - not real fast but wasn't in a hurry. 4 stars Speed: The machine speed to convert/copy a slide into machine is quick. It's as fast as it takes you to look at the picture showing on the viewer screen, flip the slide to different position if needed and push the button to save it. I had a large number of slides to copy at once which took me some time to convert becuz I had almost 500 slides but if you have 50 or less slides/negatives it shouldn't take you very long at all to convert your slides.
Only problem I had is the viewing screen itself. It could be a little bigger or have a magnifying feature included. On some slides I had a hard time seeing if the slide was facing the right way. I was somewhat lucky and had only a few slides backwards out of 500. Not a big deal - I could re-do if I wanted to.
Finally, transferring the slides from the slide converter to my PC was very easy. The hardest part was finding the PC USB slot that I had never used before. Once it was inserted the PC automatically started transferring from the USB card to the PC and then I created file folders that each picture would go into. On the PC the slides were naturally a lot easier to see and can even be used as wallpaper.
GOOD SCANNER May 12, 2010 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
I BOUGHT THIS ITEM NOT EXPECTING EXCELLENT RESULTS, BUT WAS I EVER WRONG. RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, IT WAS EASY TO USE. THE INSTRUCTIONS LEFT A LITTLE TO BE DESIRED, BUT WITH A FEW USES, IT WAS VERY EASY TO OPERATE. IT IS PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD. I HAVE HAD THIS SCANNER NOW FOR A LITTLE OVER A WEEK AND SO FAR, I HAVE SCANNED BETWEEN ONE THOUSAND AND FIFTEEN HUNDRED SLIDES, ALL WITH WONDERFUL RESULTS. THE COLOR IS EXACTLY AS ON THE ORIGINAL KODACHROME SLIDE. THREE OR FOUR YEARS AGO, I BOUGHT A CANON SCANNER ON WHICH I SCANNED OVER FOUR THOUSAND COLOR SLIDES, BUT IT IS BIG AND BULKY AND MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER. IT COST CONSIDERABLY MORE THAN THIS LITTLE SCANNER, BUT GAVE NO BETTER RESULTS. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS SCANNER TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO PRESERVE PICTURES.
If you have slides you need this February 11, 2010 48 out of 49 found this review helpful
I bought this product to transper my parents slides to digital so we can look at them easier. How many people have a broken slide projector at home? Slides were the "in" thing back in the 60's and 70's so everyone has a bunch in the basement. The cheapest price to send the slides out that I found was .19 cents each so that was not an option when you have about 2000 plus. This is so easy to use that I could not believe it. It came with software and you can hook the scanner directly up to the computer but you can just use a SD card and then pop it in the computer when your done. The scanner has adjustments but I left it on the default settings and it worked great. The view screen is pretty small but it lets you see what your doing. It takes longer to put the slides in the holder than to scan it (about 5 seconds to scan each slide). I did about 420 slides in about 2 hours one day so it goes pretty quick. The quality of the scan is only as good as the slide itself but it still is better than having the slides in a box in the basement and nobody looks at them. If you want the quickest and cheapest way to get slides to digital this is your machine. The scanner also works well on film negatives. You just have to change the setting on the scanner and your in business.
