1 out of 5 stars After 1 Year fell apart   March 2, 2010

I got this camera in January of 2009. And I LOVED it! Took fantastic pictures (good enough to sell - I'm a photographer with many cameras) portable and the battery lasted a long time. BUT at the beginning of February all of a sudden I'd put batteries in and they would last about an hour. Next thing I know I pull it out of it's case and the silver button on top flipped off on the street and I couldn't find it. It still worked, however. Now when I put new batteries in they last about 3 or 4 pictures and then are drained. It's over a year, so warranty is shot. It makes me so sad. I loved this little camera. Now I'm leery of getting another little canon.

2 out of 5 stars camera lens got stuck after 1 year   February 16, 2010
Just one year after we bought this camera we were taking a picture and suddenly the lens got stuck in extended position. We had just taken a picture a minute before, then this happened. The camera doesn't work anymore, it makes some noises like trying to move the lens, but it doesn't do anything. I found similar complaints about this and other Canons in the web after searching for the error message "lens error" or "stuck lens".

Other than that it was a so-so camera while it worked, slow to recharge after a flash (using alkaline batteries). The focus wasn't too great (even with the image stabilization feature) and the colors were not as vivid as a Panasonic that we had before.

2 out of 5 stars Battery shorting   February 15, 2010
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Six months after purchase, the battery began shorting- meaning new batteries would last less than one hour in the camera.
I sent it in for repairs and it worked fine for about a month or so.
It began shorting again, so I returned it a second time.
The lab was unable to duplicate the problem and therefore I was not entitled to a refund or a replacement.
The camera is still under warranty at this time but this is of no use to me.

I am extremely disappointed with Cannon's customer service.

I will not be purchasing another cannon based on my customer service experience.

4 out of 5 stars Very good compromise camera   January 27, 2010
Our old 5mp Kodak died and we needed a replacement. Since I do a lot of hiking I needed a camera with a viewfinder (for shots in bright sunlight) while my wife just wanted something small and easy to use. The 2.5" screen is just large enough to satisfy her needs while the viewfinder (although it only renders 78% of the picture) allows me to frame shots in the bright outdoors. Its versatile with a program mode that gives you some measure of control (not bad for a camera at this level) but has an adaquate auto mode. Picture quality is not outstanding but more than adequate. Indoor pictures can be tricky on automatic mode where it has a tendency to want to use a higher ISO than it should. Forcing an ISO of 200 or less on the Program mode helps a lot. Buttons and menu are fairly easy to get used to. At 4x it has a slightly longer zoom than many others in its class. It feels good in the hand. Consumer Reports liked it better than the 12 MP successor, the A1100. All in all its a very nice under $200 camera.

3 out of 5 stars GREAT Camera But S.L.O.W.   January 20, 2010
Just a Quick point to make -I have 3 cameras for different uses, this is my party camera, but unfortunatley it takes too long to recover after it takes a picture using the flash REGARDLESS of the type/brand AA batteries I use.

So will have to hunt for a quicker recovering camera.
